Our People

Adult Literacy Aotearoa (Kapiti) Inc is governed by a group of elected volunteers who meet monthly.  Their role is to set goals and strategic plans in order to meet the needs of the organisation.  Our governing committee members are elected yearly and they offer a wealth of experience in different areas.  Their knowledge and expertise are valuable assets in the on-going need for literacy development.

Meet some of the staff

Sally Chapman (Manager). Sally has worked with Adult Literacy Aotearoa (Kapiti) Inc. as a tutor for 3 years before becoming the manager in January 2012. She has a range of experiences in Government departments and the non-profit sector. Sally is passionate about learning and is always looking to increase her knowledge and skills.  She loves working with and encouraging people on their learning journey.

Shellee May (Tutor).  Shellee is a trained primary school teacher and has been a tutor with Adult Literacy Aotearoa (Kapiti) Inc. for 6 years. Shellee works with a range of students within small groups and has recently completed her NCALE certificate. Her quiet, patient manner and style has recently seen a small group of students achieve their first ever formal qualification, the Certificate in Foundation Communication Skills. Shellee has also recently started playing a part in mentoring and supporting a number of other tutors as  part of the tutor mentoring programme within Adult Literacy Aotearoa (Kapiti) Inc.

Lesley Rogers (Tutor). Lesley worked as a primary school teacher and specialist reading recovery tutor before retraining in adult education.She gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Education specialising in adult literacy and numeracy education from Waikato University in 2012 and worked for Literacy Waikato in Hamilton before moving to the Kapiti Coast and taking up employment with Adult Literacy Aotearoa( Kapiti) in 2013. She has a particular interest in literacy and enjoys working with adults as they achieve their  learning goals.

Heide Bastick (Tutor). Heide joined Adult Literacy Aotearoa (Kapiti) Inc. at the beginning of 2013. Her background is in Accountancy and Human Resources management. Heide enjoys working with adults and assisting them in achieving their learning goals.
